    Travel Summary


    • Most visits to Guyana are trouble-free. Three British nationals required consular assistance in Guyana in the period April 2010 – March 2011. See General - Consular Assistance Statistics.

    • There have been recent incidents on the road to the international airport in Georgetown at night. Cars have been stopped at gun point and the occupants robbed. False police roadblocks have been erected to slow cars down. You should avoid travelling on this road between the hours of 23:00 and 04:30, and bear this in mind when booking flights to and from Guyana.

    • There is a low threat from terrorism. But you should be aware of the global risk of indiscriminate terrorist attacks which could be in public areas, including those frequented by expatriates and foreign travellers.

    • You should take out comprehensive travel and medical insurance before travelling. See General - Insurance.
